Pavers versus Asphalt and Concrete

Standard concrete slabs are generally lower in cost per square foot than the alternative. Typically, you will pay more if you choose brick pavers over standard concrete slabs. If you decide to upgrade to stamped concrete, brick pavers will most likely cost you about the same or maybe a little less in some cases. While a concrete slab is more affordable upfront, the long-term costs for repairs and/or replacements will almost always outweigh the initial savings. Concrete will crack and crumble under the freeze and thaw effect.

Brick pavers require a lot more preparation, which makes for a more labor intensive installation. The paver installation process includes: excavation, grading, sub-base compaction, geotextile fiber install, base preparation, base compaction, sand preparation, laying the pavers and finishing with polymeric sand to fill in the joints with the option of sealing the final product with a concrete sealer.  Another benefit installing brick pavers repairing them. If settling occurs down the line, the pavers can easily be readjusted to correct the issue by removing them, regrading the problem area and replacing the brick. If concrete crack and needs repaired you will need to replace the entire slab. You can choose to spot treat problem areas, however, the treated areas will often end up looking like a patch or band-aid, since it is very difficult to match the color of an existing concrete slab. Both types of materials are easy to maintain, with similar maintenance, cleaning, and protective measures. To preserve the integrity of your patio, driveway, or walkway installation, maintenance is highly encouraged.
